MATCH REPORT

Round 8 at home hosting last year's premiers and current top of the ladder Northern Districts. Again a dry sunny day greeted us with the ground in excellent condition and a breeze to the far scoring end , with a full squad raring to go and 5 on the bench! We ran the ball well with the wind and had plenty of possession. This week (yes) we were able to put it on the scoreboard with 4 goals to 1 . We continued similarly in the second quarter to kick further 2 against the wind with Northern kicking 4 with the wind, our forward and on ballers were getting plenty of it and our defenders stoic against some sizeable opponents with Trav and Cuddles taking plenty of marks in the backline and Matt weaving his way through traffic. Our forwards were working well as a unit with one 'non' goal to become memorable (not so). Long kicking was working with Machine grabbing several marks close to goal and KBJ giving us a strong contest and goals in forward line.

There is a famous quote that the '3rd quarter is the premiership quarter'

Northern came out with a renewed zest and hit us hard early kicking against the wind to pile on 4 goals 3 to our 2 points. Our defenders were under a fair bit of pressure with their opponents now starting to see the ball come in quickly and more often. Cuddles went into the middle to try and nullify one of their key movers which got us back into the game and at three quarter time the game was still up for grabs with Northern leading by 16 points and maybe (hopefully) they had used up all of their tank?

The last quarter both sides attacked hard. Warriors to their credit never gave up and if a few posters and a couple went our way (luck) we could have been right in it with 5 minutes to go. Louey tried hard to drag us forward and ran hard all day but crisp ball movement and teaming from our opponents snuffed out the opportunity.

Good effort from everyone - We have seen the level we need to play at to match it for 4 full quarters against the top sides, good to see some of our injured team-mates returning and Leigh at the game

Best: Louey, Matt, Tala, Porky, Miles, Machine
