MATCH REPORT

Round 7 back at home after a 3 week away game tour saw a dry sunny day greeting us with the ground in excellent condition to take on Melbourne. With a full squad raring to go we kicked off and ran the ball well and again plenty of possession but the first quarter was a battle of defences we lost Leigh early for the rest of the day with dislocated knee, our defence regrouped and with neither side kicking a major in the first quarter tackling from both sides was ferocious and promised to be a hard day to get a kick

Second quarter we started to use our options and kicked 4 goals, some positional changes were reaping rewards with players showing they could play in many spots, Tex chased 5 Melbourne players down resulting in a turnover and goal, Luke turned an easy clearance from them into a score. Others including Pork and Trav showed they could play quality backline and confidence was up

At half time coached asked for more with the 3rd quarter becoming a dour affair, both sides were in an arm wrestle, our opponents kicked many points but we continued to apply pressure going in to three quarter time, several players were given specific roles which they performed admirably

The last quarter was a frenetic affair with several players visiting the bench with various ailments, Melbourne snuck forward and kicked a quick goal but Warriors were up to the task and pushed forward. Late in the quarter Cam re-suited up and took the ground for the last few minutes forcing opposition to send quality player to him freeing us up

Good effort from everyone– special mention to bomber who tells me he is a winger but played tagger(run with player) in second half to shut some of our opposition’s drive down. Next game is Northern Districts at home. Well done to everyone.
