MATCH REPORT

Another sunny Autumn day and the Warriors ventured north to take on Brunswick at McCallister Oval. It's only been 3 rounds since we copped a 33 point loss to them in round 1 and it was time to make amends. Unfortunately Belly and CT both pulled out before the game with back soreness. Brunswick were also a little short so we agreed to play 17 a side.

Right from the first ball up the boys were up and about. Driven deep into our forward line, Brunswick had a hard time trying to get it back out. Our forward pressure was terrific, early goals to Seal and Rev. We got a little wayward after that, adding a further 3 points. The backline didn't have a lot to do, with the Mudlarks having only 2 inside fifties for the quarter. One of them resulted in a goal on the siren.

We had all the play in the first, but didn't quite get the scoreboard dominance we deserved. We adjusted that 20 seconds into the 2nd with a loose ball gathered by Rev and a textbook finish. We kept the pressure on and played 'our' style of game. Ace and Mitch ran rampant on the wings, Seal, Sammy and Eddie did the grunt work with Rev and Geelong at the pointy end. Any time Brunswick went forward it was repelled by a coherent backline. Rowdy solid and Vinnie provided plenty of run of half back. Good to see we increased our lead.

B 3 3 21 WW 6 4 40

Brunswick must have got a rev-up at half time because they came out recharged and hit us hard with three goals to zip. They interrupted our running game and increased their efforts across half back. 15 minutes into the quarter and our lead had been eroded to a mere 5 points. No need for panic or advice from the bench, the boys sensed they'd let it slip and lifted accordingly. We pushed it forward and kept it there. A goal to Geelong from a tight angle and the margin was 13 points.

B 5 6 36 WW 7 7 49

Crunch time. Did we fold, or grab the game by the horns and make a statement? Early forward pressure was a good sign. Fitzy caused a turnover which enabled Ace to pop it over to Sammy. He played on with a quick handball over to Rev and he had his third for the day. Tony and Damo did a sterling job against a much taller ruckman, and although generally beaten in the ball-ups their work around the ground put them well on top overall. We kept up the work rate and it was beginning to show. Marky S must be ranked no. 1 for intercepts by now. The boys smelt blood and didn't let up. We did all the things we needed to do and finished out the game in emphatic style.

B 5 7 37 WW 12 12 84

What can I say? Fantastic effort by the entire team. Well done fellas.
