MATCH REPORT

Off to Eric Bell Reserve to face Frankston for the 2nd time in two weeks, such are the vagaries of the Masters fixture.  Our last meeting was a rather one-sided affair with Frankston barely even putting up a whimper.  This time around we certainly expected such a proud club to regroup and atone for their previous insipid effort.

Played as a twilight fixture under lights, we were not surprised by the Tigersharks renewed vigour.  They came out of the blocks hard, and continued at a high intensity for the entire game.

From the start we could see it was going to be a physical affair. The opening minutes were a tussle with both sides registering minor scores.  A soccer off the ground by Lawrie saw our first major, followed 4 minutes later by a post high set shot from first gamer Scanners. Not to be denied, Frankston rallied with two of their own. Into quarter time with 2.1 apiece.

The second quarter saw Frankston take the ascendency. The Warriors seemed to relax a bit and to our good fortune they didn't make it count on the scoreboard. 1 goal 2 v 2 behinds did not reflect the unbalanced play.   3.3 to 2.3

Our boys came out fired up after half time, determined not to let this one slip away. Frankston had the same opinion it seemed and added two more goals to their tally. 7 minutes in and the Warriors trailed by 18 points. Having not kicked 18 yet for the game, it was starting to look like a hill too steep. To their credit the Warriors fought on, with a nice pack mark 20 metres out by Seal truly converted. One minute later a slick handpass to the running Rev gave us another 6 points.   5.3 to 4.6

Going into the last quarter 3 points down, Dusty showed great leadership during the break and we could tell it wasn't over yet. We'd just doubled our score whilst holding them scoreless so we were well aware of our capabilities. Frankston were determined to keep their lead and the last 20 minutes was truly a contest of wills. Our forwards did a fantastic job locking the ball down in our half, and any stray balls that got out the back were quickly returned to the fray. A soccer attempt by Seal didn't quite get there, but luckily Rev was able to toe poke it through for the Warriors to take the lead and hold it until the final siren.   5.3 to 5.8

A great, gutsy team effort boys. Not pretty but sometimes that what it takes to get the chocolates. Damo and Dave battled manfully in the ruck, Mick and the boys down back had a bit more work to do this week. Our forwards kept presenting well, and our mids in Seal, Geelong, Sammy, Rev and Lamby controlled the spine. Everyone did their job and that's why we got the 4 points.

Congratulations to Gerry and Scanners on their first games with the 50's
